The Elyrian delegate, during the downtime between arguments and while waiting for the votes to cease is seen reading a few parchments, before he rises once more to speak
As a final remark for this Diet before it closes for the session, while Elyria isn't privy to the military discussions regarding the repelling of Sartaq's invasion, we feel that the more hodge-podge discussion regarding what plans are in place lacked substance, so we wish to at least briefly air our views.
It appears that after re-reading the news reports coming from Percia last year, the strongest asset and liability the Imperial army has lies, above all else, in its morale. Temper your men, ensure they do not break out of line or be coaxed by the enemy into breaking formation. That is where the Horde's strength appears to lie, in picking off your troops who are unprotected by the rest of the army. As well, it appears the heavy cavalry were the strongest component, managing to break right through Sartaq's lines completely on the retreat. Keep them well defended by the infantry and shielded.
Remember the lessons of our forefathers fighting the Hunnic hordes some centuries ago. They utilised very similar tactics of mounted archers, and it was fought back through wide skirmishing lines to prevent encirclements, double-lined formations so that if one formation is encircled then the other can break them out, and utilising field emplacements, such as abatis in the forests of western Percia. Those would be the easiest to establish as all you need to do is to cut trees down toward the enemy, so that they cannot cross the heavy branches and leaves. Constructing Cheval de frise will also help prevent a charge by the enemy and are simple to construct in the field.
Also, provide your infantrymen with metal darts such as Plumbatae or Javelins. Old Imperial records state that they were particularly effective against mounted archers that closed in to attack, notably when thousands of men threw these at once. Those realms that have active Iron mines in them, this task is best suited for you to organise and establish. Make use of your assets for the betterment of all.
You will most likely not have the time to liberate the castle judging from discussions about merely arriving in central Percia on month 5 without sieging through winter, so do what you can to at least push Sartaq back for the year. We can talk about sieging the castle, if it still exists, next year.
May God bless those warriors of the Empire that stand against the invaders, and may God watch over those who live through these horrors.
