The scribe stands and bangs a staff on the floor three times, announcing:
"The vote has ended. The Diet votes to elect Lord-Archon Trajan of the Argent Despotate, the Speaker for the Imperial Diet, alongside his outlined powers."

"Congratulations to the newly elected speaker. I wish you the best of luck. Speaker, what topic shall we discuss first? We were in the middle of discussing one of the wars before the speaker vote started. Shall we continue with that?"

Allectus rises to speak
Congratulations to the Lord Speaker on his victory.
Though the rules supplied by the Lord Speaker do not explicitly mention how the topics of for this Diet will be addressed, I suggest allowing time for members to bring up topics for discussion and for the Speaker to arrange the order at which they are discussed.
Personally, I would like to discuss the possibility of choosing an alternate to fill in for the Lord Speaker in the event he is unable to fulfill his duties, either due to being incapacitated or unavailable. This alternate would of course be a member of the Diet.

Good Consul, We do not want to delay proceedings further with another vote for a Speaker.
We would intend to bring up for dicussion two separate items:
a) The illegal invasion of Eriburn by the Thorgerheimers,
b) and the happenings between the Republic of Caelin and Phalus to our north,
Both topics to be discussed in the Diet to find an amiable solution that avoids further bloodshed and conflict between Christians. Our region, the east of Christendom, has had some disputes over land claims and expansion claims, and Our fear is, without discussion and peaceful solutions, this current period of war and bloodshed will continue for several years.

King Percy of Percia speaks true as it relates to the untoward attack upon my lands by the Old Kingdom. I am willing to reach a peace here in front of the realm, so as to prevent further loss of life of the citizenry of the Old Kingdom at the hands of their King.

Good and Honest King, I simply suggest a discussion on the possibility of having an alternate for the Lord Speaker. The selection of said alternate could very well be done directly by the Lord Speaker as opposed to another lengthy vote. We of course will focus on the main topics of discussion and leave less important matters to the end.

I thank you for your well-wishes. As Speaker, we must address the first concerns brought before us at the start of this Diet.
Consul Allectus de Gallia, if you wish to put forth a proposal on a Vice Speaker, please prepare to present one in writing while we review the current grievances between King Throvak I and King de'Jon.
Lord de'Jon and Lord Throvak I, I request that both of you individually present your grievances and views on the conflict between your realms as well as your preferred resolutions.
There will then be a small period of discussion, questions, and adjustments to the resolutions if the presenters wish. From there, I will present a vote between the two resolutions for the Imperial Diet to vote on, or if the Imperial Diet wishes to pass on commenting on this conflict, make their wills known before voting is set.

With the permission of the Speaker, First of all, congratulations to our elected Speaker, and honorable charge for an honorable man. His Holiness, my Lords, Peace is the most valuable treasure a Kingdom can possess. An the duty of a king, a leader of his people chosen by God, is to preserve it. Words has to be the first wall of defense but when someone tear apart them you have to appeal to the swords. I am here today as a man who has been forced to defend himself, his honor and the Peace of his Kingdom. Two years ago, I began to stablish good relationships with my neighbors. In the North, I decided that, in order to maintain peace, not to expand further and create possible tension between the good Christians realms of Silesia and Phalus. Here is the proof, that I act in good faith. In the South, I decided to act in the same way, not expanding my borders further to East or West to prevent tensions between kingdoms. I sent a dispatch to the good King Hatar I, with a generous proposal, so both realms can have lands and food for their people. You can see here: However, my lords, I was not prepare to encounter greed and threats in my negotiations with the kingdom of Eriburn. I sent dispatches in the same way than the others, with a generous proposal as you can see. Both kingdoms will have lands and resources. Although, I constrain my own borders, I thought that it is a minor price in order to maintain the peace between Christians. But Marq Luq d'Jean showed his real face, he pretends to keep all the South to himself. He demands lands that belongs to my own Capital Kramelia, lands that my people have been harvesting for centuries. He demands to control the Harbinger Pass where my Father rebuild the old fortress of Thorger. He pretends to block off my access to the sea. He demands me to expand to the North as he has any right to control the South or my kingdom affairs. And finally, he threats me and my people by assuring that my own lands will belongs to him. Notice his pretensions in their letters, notice their insult to my people. I was standing the walls of Peace with words when Marq Luq d'Jean knocked down with disparaging insults, insidious demands and threats to my lands. Even so, I waited, I didn’t want to appeal to the swords, I wanted to see a act of good faith. But Eriburn decided to take control of lands to cut off my expansion, my access to the sea and threating my castle. My lords, my friends. We are people of the mountains, we don´t have too much fertile lands, we are not numerous to raise levies either. We needed to stop Eriburn to steal more of our fertile lands. So, once the diplomacy fail, we send our people to find the Eriburn expansionist army to stop them from snatching more lands to us. We march in circles searching to each other until we encountered us in at the borders. We were unable to make them stop for getting more land, as great is their greed. Now, he continues to block and constrain my kingdom more and more as you can see. Forcing a war when he has enough land at his South and West, but he has decided to destroy me and my kingdom. What would you do in mi situation? What would you do when another king claims your our lands and begin to encircle your realm? You will hear the king of Eriburn talk about some looted gold when he has plundered whole lands. He will try to show to you as the victim when he struck first. He will try to use this Diet to approve his unholy war. I appeal to your wisdom and honor. We need to stablish a border that not provoke a war, the border I first ask for. I am even not looking for the apologies from Marq Luq d'Jean for their insults and provocations, and I am also willing to pay reparations for what my army takes during his march in search of Eriburn´s army. I only ask to the members of the diet that the solution we find here must bring Peace. His holiness, Speaker (Bows to them and take seat)

The Crown Prince rises, bowing his head towards the Pope and providing a smaller, yet still respectful nod towards the Lord-Archon."I think it is telling that the words used by my neighbor, the King Thravok I, has once again put a good deal of nuance into his words to justify his invasion of my land and attack upon my peoples. "I will not deny that the High King was the first to reach out between us, but he's not providing a very good characterization of the conversation between us. We were effectively told what our border would be, in terms of what the Old Kingdom would accept, which appears to be the modus operandi of the Old Kingdom's diplomatic outreaches. If you look at the private letters he has now shared between himself and other rulers present today, you notice that his first message always tells them what the borders will be, though curiously we do not see anyone accepting these demands... "There are lands that we consider historically and culturally Eriburnian that are currently within the commonly accepted boundaries of the Old Kingdom. I initially attempted to see if King Thravok would be willing to return them to us, but he was unwilling to do so. "Seeing that this was the case, I was willing to show a measure of compromise, so I said we would be willing to allow them to remain under the control of the Old Kingdom, if the rest of our borders had been accepted. I thought perhaps that King Thravok would see my willingness to negotiate here and would reply with some measure of a counter-offer, if you will. "But this was not to be. Instead, the Old Kingdom invoked the name of the Almighty and said that what was happening was his will, as if the Old Kingdom could speak for the Holiest of Holies. You can see if from these letters, my offer to continue the conversation was rejected and was spurned. The next message I would receive concerning the Old Kingdom would be the news that they had invaded my lands, raided them and were moving deeper into them. "But the penultimate line of the Old Kingdom's message and their characterization of their demand for lands right upon our border would invite one to ponder the contradictory nature of what they have said today. King Thravok said that he "hope we can expand our influence whithout obstructing each other" as he lays claims to lands almost immediately upon my Eastern border, but is upset that we returned into the Most Holy Kingdom of Eriburn lands that are near to his border. "Indeed, the contradictions end not only there. The Old Kingdom has yet to deny that they attacked my people, instead attempting to chart the course that they came into my lands, raided them and were engaged by my army in my own territory out of an act of defense. They claim that I was the aggressor, yet if this were the case why is it that the Old Kingdom has not been raided? Why was the battle upon my territory? "The Old Kingdom mentions how it would be cut off from the sea. Something that has never been before mentioned in any communications between our nations. But that wasn't our intention at all, for you see the Old Kingdom had access to the sea to the North and to the South. "Indeed, the directions the old Kingdom could have expanded were to essentially any direction of the compass expect into my own country. There is a vast amount of open, unclaimed land between the Old Kingdom and its other neighbors. Yet he only is upset that he cannot claim my lands. "Even by the maps he shared of the growing borders of the Most Holy Kingdom, what do you notice? He talks of being cornered in, but hardly made any efforts whatsoever to expand his own borders, something that is within the purview of every Lord here in this hall to do, especially into lands that are otherwise lawless, unclaimed and waiting to be settled. "So when you take all of this into consideration, my Lords, I think the truth of the matter becomes rather evident. The Old Kingdom, who has already laid claim to one of the major passes through the realm as their own, something never done in the days of old, wanted to dictate the borders of their lands to every one of their neighbors and could not fathom that someone would say no. "So they raided my lands, marching upon my interior before abruptly turning back, being caught on the return march by my army, which drove them not only from the field, but from my lands entirely. Seeing his army so humbled, the Old King has now run here, to the Imperial Diet, to try and legitimize his invasion after he realized that he wouldn't be able to cow me by pen or by sword. It makes one wonder, what would his attitude had been had he won?
"So what I ask of the Diet is simple. We rebuke the Old Kingdom not only attempting to dictate borders to all of its neighbors, not only attempting to claim a pass that was historically open for trade and passage, not only invading a neighbor when said issues are pointed out, but also running before this Diet when they cannot match their mettle with their pen. "Because that is ultimately what we are dealing with today, my fellows Lords, the invasion of the Most Holy Kingdom of Eriburn ultimately failed and now the Old Kingdom wants you all, the members here, to be the ones to bail him out. "I want peace between our nations, but it is beyond ludicrous to think that after I was invaded by the Old Kingdom that I would turn around and accept the exact same borders that were rejected previously, and ludicrous to believe that any of the other Lords present here today would agree with the Old Kingdom demanding such a thing occur.

Alfred Von Gewisse motioned to speak:
"Fellow lords, what we have here is over reach and a most unholy reaction. The claims put forth by Marq Luq d'Jean based on the missives/evidence provided by King Thravok I are overly broad and very likely designed to deny the King access to the seas.
However, to take to raiding the lands of your neighbor after such, is not the way of a true and civilized nation under the one true Lord.
Two wrongs, after all, do not make a right.
I call upon the Speaker to mediate the solution for a more fair border and a tithe to be paid to recompense for damage caused by King Thravok. Perhaps 500 Florins over two years.
Failing that, I call for the two to be left to fight in their unchristian manner and let the Lord sort out his own.

"With due respect to the Lord von Gewisse, it was King Thravok who first proposed borders that would've put his Kingdom's borders on my own, greatly leaving my nation to inhabit the swamps south of our lands. It is a fact that the Old Kingdom has, had and still has access to the sea. "After the initial messages, I had attempted some measure of compromise with the Old Kingdom, however as I had pointed out in the earlier provided messages and as we have seen from the opening statements here, the want from the Old Kingdom is to force their idea of borders upon the Most Holy Kingdom and upon any other nation that they interact with on the global scale. "I am not unwilling to negotiate or compromise, but I continue to be surprised how after rejecting any semblance of diplomacy, after crossing my borders and putting to the torch my lands and after coming to blows in my own lands...how I continue to hear that this is something that is anything less than mostly on the shoulders of the Old Kingdom of Thorgerheim. "I have attempted diplomacy on the shared borders between myself and the nations in my immediate vicinity. Eriburn and Green Castle have come to amicable terms, Eriburn and Percia have come to amicable terms...yet in this one case where the topic was ended by Thorgerheim, where I was invaded by Thorgerheim and where my men died defending our lands from Thorgerheim soldiers I am being told that I am in the wrong?"
