Question on start up space, points, etc. So we get 20 points to spend, we have 2x level 1 cities and 1x level 1 castle.
In order to farm, do we need to have claimed the initial hex? I.e. a city location would take 1 point, and then if we wanted to use the 6 farming hexes, we'd have to also claim those 6 hexes? So 7 points per city + 1 point for the castle? That's 15 points right there, with only 5 points to attempt to connect so there's no exclaves?

Level 2 still gets the increased income regardless, farms are just a bonus ontop. But yes you'll have to do some sitting. We may adjust the rule once the game is started and we have a better impression of how much "neutral" land there is.

I have some Questions regarding Era.
In the Rules of peace section you said it would be an early to mid Medieval Era Game but that is a huge timespan of almost 800 hundreds years depending on your cut of point. And that changes military Tactis and Social Strucutures enourmously.
While the HRE style Empire, the focus on Heavy knight Cavalry and the possibility of firearms at a later stage would imply more of a mid to late High or early Late Medieval Period.
And as I said this greatly changes the armarment of Soldiers and fighting Styles.
Another thing about Trading. Will trading also generate Income? Especially for longer trade routes passing through territories and requiring tariffs and tolls.
I get it if you say thats a bit much to simulate.

My own time keeping puts us somewhere near the 1200's, and that is also mostly the source material i'll be leaning up against when making calls for battles (that is to say books about that period) There will always be some wonkiness with how exactly you place us time wise, that is also why I wrote the part in the rules of war that state what the base understanding of the world is, what I consider to be the foundation of how warfare works, so we'll be working off of that mostly. And yeah sorry trade is not going to be more simulate than it is, entirely because of how much time that would take to work out. With the present player numbers I think i've already gone maybe a bit too far beyond what me and Crusty can handle in a time efficient manner, so we won't be adding anymore systems unless they become absolutely necessary.

When that deadline is passed, we'll go from player to player and ask them to point to the map where they want to place their stuff in their assigned queue number (which we will assign shortly before).

Now, is it possible to claim land in a way that does not surround a tile? i.e. claiming land in a straight line

Now, is it possible to claim land in a way that does not surround a tile? i.e. claiming land in a straight line You can claim land in any shape you wish as long as it fulfills the rules as posted in the peace rules regarding exclaves and enclaves. So one long coherent line is possible, but it'll also be more of a pain to defend.

Oh and also, I recommend everyone double-check the rules after placement. We are doing some alterations to the rules when people ask us very good questions and raise poignant issues. The ruleset is a living breathing thing and we'll try to keep you updated so you are not surprised when it does change.
